xAI launches Grok Build in beta: a powerful coding agent and CLI for advanced engineering
xAI has introduced an early beta of Grok Build, a coding agent and command-line interface intended for professional software engineering and complex development tasks. Access to this initial release is restricted to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers, allowing xAI to improve both the model and the product based on early user feedback.
For those managing intricate projects, Grok Build features a plan mode. This mode grants users full control over task execution, letting them approve proposed plans, comment on specific steps, or rewrite plans prior to execution. All changes are tracked transparently, with modifications presented as clean diffs.
When initialized in a repository, Grok Build works with pre-existing AGENTS.md files, plugins, hooks, skills, and MCP servers, automatically detecting and respecting established conventions. For larger or more complex projects, the system can dispatch work to specialized subagents running in parallel, and offers deep worktree integrations. These subagents may also launch in separate worktrees as needed.
Building on these workflow improvements, Grok Build supports headless mode for running agents within scripts and automated pipelines. The command-line interface gives full ACP support for users who wish to build custom bots or orchestration applications. SuperGrok Heavy subscribers can install and use Grok Build immediately.
