PlayStation’s first party single player games will no longer launch on PC going forward

Sony PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst has confirmed that Sony is changing its release strategy for first party PlayStation games, moving back toward stronger console exclusivity after several years of bringing major titles to PC. The company will now keep its biggest narrative driven single player games, including Marvel’s Wolverine and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophecy, exclusive to PlayStation hardware, and will stop releasing this type of blockbuster on Steam going forward.

The company will still release multiplayer focused games like Helldivers 2 on both PlayStation 5 and PC, since live service titles depend on larger cross platform player bases. Sony’s decision reportedly follows weaker PC sales for some releases and internal concerns that bringing major exclusives to PC could weaken the PlayStation brand and reduce the value of owning its hardware. Titles like Kena: Scars of Kosmora are still uncertain under the new guidelines, while Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was among the last major exceptions before the strategy was reinforced.
