Fortnite returns to the iOS App Store globally amid Epic’s legal fight with Apple

Fortnite is returning to the iOS App Store in most regions worldwide after a nearly five year absence caused by Epic Games’ legal battle with Apple. The rollout expands on Fortnite’s US comeback from last year, although Australia remains excluded because Epic says Apple is still enforcing developer terms that Australian courts found partly unlawful. Epic is asking the courts there to issue orders that it says would benefit app developers and iOS users.

Epic is also pushing in US federal courts to force Apple to disclose the real operational costs behind its App Store fees. The company argues that greater transparency could increase government scrutiny of what it calls “junk fees,” while CEO Tim Sweeney frames the case as part of a broader fight over app ecosystem rules.

Fortnite’s wider mobile return also comes as Epic faces pressure from declining player numbers and recent restructuring. The company laid off around a quarter of its workforce in March and has scaled back several Fortnite related modes, including Ballistic, Festival Battle Stage, and Rocket Racing, making mobile growth an important part of its next phase.
