YouTube is expanding picture-in-picture playback to more users worldwide

YouTube has announced that picture-in-picture (PiP) playback will be available to all users around the world in the coming months. This expansion brings the mini-player feature beyond its previous regional and account limitations.

For non-premium users outside the United States, PiP access now extends to longform, non-music content on both Android and iOS devices. Meanwhile, users in the US who do not pay for YouTube Premium will see no changes, as their PiP experience remains the same.

Premium Lite members will continue using PiP for longform, non-music videos on Android and iOS, preserving their existing functionality. Additionally, YouTube Premium subscribers retain exclusive PiP access for both music and non-music content, which allows uninterrupted playback regardless of video type.

To use the PiP feature, begin playing a video and either swipe up or tap the home button to exit the YouTube app. The video will continue in a moveable small player onscreen. If PiP does not work, users are advised to check for necessary updates to the YouTube application or adjust their device settings.
