WhatsApp to launch WhatsApp Plus subscription with new features and customization options
WhatsApp is set to introduce a premium subscription plan called WhatsApp Plus, targeting users seeking more advanced personalization options without changing the standard app experience. While the app's core messaging and voice call services, along with end-to-end encryption, remain free and untouched for all users, WhatsApp Plus provides extra features on a subscription basis, expected to cost €2.49 per month in Europe, though this price could be adjusted before a wider release.
The new plan brings exclusive stickers, 18 fresh color themes, and 14 app icon options, enabling a personalized look and feel. Subscribers will also be able to pin up to 20 chats instead of the current limit of 3. Following these appearance upgrades, users can further tailor their experience by selecting ringtones from their personal library, along with 10 exclusive tones provided in the premium tier. For increased efficiency, certain chat and group settings can be applied in bulk.
Currently, WhatsApp Plus is accessible only on Android for those who have installed the latest app version from the Google Play Store, with iOS support to follow. WhatsApp Business accounts are not included in this rollout. The company is also exploring additional exclusive features for future updates to the paid tier.
