Ubuntu 16.04 LTS standard security support ends, Legacy add-on available
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) has reached the end of its standard Expanded Security Maintenance window as of April 2026. Users can extend security updates to April 2031 by adding the Legacy add-on to their Ubuntu Pro subscription. There is no direct upgrade path from 16.04 to newer LTS versions, and migrations must be performed progressively.
