Google's upgraded desktop app is now available on Windows with Spotlight-like AI search
The upgraded Google app for desktop is now available for Windows users worldwide in English, introducing several new features designed to streamline search and productivity. At the core of this update, the app integrates AI Mode, allowing users to ask questions directly and receive AI-powered answers that include relevant web links for additional exploration.
Alongside its AI features, the app enables users to instantly search across desktop files, installed applications, Google Drive documents, and the web using the keyboard shortcut Alt + Space. This unified search box simplifies access to information across multiple sources. Building on search capabilities, the app includes Lens support, making it possible to select and search any part of the screen, whether for translating images, extracting text, or assisting with homework tasks.
Following these workflow improvements, the app introduces screen sharing options, letting users choose a window or their full screen to continue searching and asking questions without disrupting their activity. The user experience is further enhanced by a design that helps users pick up tasks exactly where they left off after a search or interaction.
