AliasVault 0.28 adds nested subfolders, new export formats, and improved browser extension
AliasVault 0.28 updates its open source, end-to-end encrypted password and email alias manager with several new features. Users can now create nested subfolders across all platforms, improving organization of logins, notes, and identities. This update streamlines navigation for large vaults and enhances organizational flexibility. Building on these changes, password importers now retain nested folder structures when bringing data from other managers, simplifying migration.
The web app introduces new export formats that include all vault data, such as credentials, passkeys, attachments, and favicons. Users can select .avex for encrypted, portable backups or .avux as a readable, unencrypted backup when needed. These options support easier manual backup and restore workflows.
Following these improvements, the browser extension now automatically copies two-factor authentication (2FA) Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) codes to the clipboard after autofill, streamlining user logins. 2FA field detection is also more reliable on additional websites, improving overall compatibility.
Other updates include a password strength indicator in the web app during registration and password changes, and a “load more” feature for browsing emails in the mobile app and extension. Additionally, local password unlock is now rate-limited for added security.
