Nextcloud Hub 26 Winter adds migration tools, browser encryption, and Office updates

Nextcloud has announced its latest biggest update "Nexcloud Hub 26 Winter", with tons of new features focused on data ownership, security, and performance. It improves migration between servers, expanding export and import support beyond files to include Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Tables, and Deck, and it enables the migration tooling by default for many installations.

Collaboration features also get a broad refresh across Nextcloud Talk, Calendar, Mail, and Office. Talk adds message pinning with optional auto unpin, scheduled messages, an optional chat layout, and meeting upgrades like live transcription with translation, plus opt in audio options like auto gain, echo cancellation, and noise suppression. Calendar adds a restriction option for external invites, while Mail adds attachment visibility inside threads, favorite threads, compact mode, and improved quick filters. Office adds document comparison, spreadsheet sheet views, a table design tab for styled XLSX tables, and a “Present to All” mode for synchronized slide shows without relying on screen sharing.

On the security and platform side, end-to-end encryption can now be set up and managed in the browser, including public sharing links and encrypted file requests, though Nextcloud notes the browser is less secure than desktop clients for encrypted workflows. Nextcloud Assistant adds AI content labels and optional memories that can retain context across chats, plus faster local AI features and support for models like Olmo 3 and self hosted IBM watsonx. Under the hood, the new ADA engine and a rewritten file access layer using PHP, Rust, and Go aim to speed up permissions and file access at scale, alongside broader performance work and a heavy emphasis on maintenance and stability.

Hub 26 Winter is available now for self hosted deployments, and users can install or update it on their own Nextcloud server, or get it through a hosting provider that supports the new release.
