Google has started implementing interoperability between Google Meet and Microsoft Teams

Google is rolling out new device interoperability for its Google Meet video conferencing hardware, enabling direct connection with Microsoft Teams rooms. This advance bridges two major enterprise video platforms, allowing meetings to be joined across systems under certain conditions.

For now, the feature works only on Chrome OS-based Google Meet rooms and Windows-based Microsoft Teams rooms. While this provides flexibility for organizations using both ecosystems, access is limited to business customers subscribed to Google Workspace.

Following regulatory commitments Microsoft made to the European Commission, this move aims to ease the use of mixed hardware in enterprise landscapes. However, while interoperability links the devices, users are restricted to basic video conferencing. According to Google's documentation, features like presentations, dual-screen support, and integrated video chat are not supported when rooms are connected across platforms. This means companies can expect simple video meeting functions, without the full suite of collaboration options available in native environments.
