Zabbix 8.0 LTS adds AI enablement, observability, event processing, and scalability gains
Monitoring platform Zabbix has released version 8.0 LTS, which the company describes as its most significant release yet. The headline additions center on observability and artificial intelligence: native OpenTelemetry support brings application performance monitoring (APM) capabilities, allowing teams to collect, visualize, and analyze application metrics, logs, and traces alongside traditional infrastructure monitoring. Zabbix is also touting AI enablement features, positioning the release as “where monitoring meets observability” with full-stack visibility at any scale.
Under the hood, the release packs substantial scalability and reliability improvements. Administrators can expect faster startup times, quicker cleanup of historical data, DNS caching with failover for better speed and reliability, reduced SNMP traffic thanks to EngineID caching, and improved proxy load handling through enhanced throttling. Database resilience gets a boost with support for multiple PostgreSQL backend nodes, while a new JSON data type allows structured data storage and ClickHouse and Elasticsearch integrations promise better performance and storage efficiency.
Security and usability round out the changelog. API access is now disabled by default for all user roles until explicitly granted, secrets can be stored via HashiCorp Vault AppRole authentication, and trapper items ship with secure default settings. On the operations side, users gain per-user post-login landing pages, the ability to suppress individual triggers during maintenance windows, manual tagging of prototype-generated triggers, and audit log export. Visualization improvements include dashboard export/import, a new Scatter Plot widget for spotting correlations between metrics, marker clustering in Geomaps, and aggregation options in the Top Items widget. A cloud cost dashboard spanning AWS, Azure, GCP, and Oracle Cloud, plus monitoring for OpenAI and Copilot usage, reflects the platform's push toward modern, multi-cloud environments. An official Zabbix mobile app for incident response is also promised shortly after the 8.0 release.
