Meta adds real-time voice chats and expressive avatars to its AI agent Muse

Meta is rolling out real-time voice conversations and expressive avatars for Muse, its personal AI agent that can perform tasks across websites and connected apps. First previewed at Connect 2026, the features are now becoming available in the Muse app on mobile, web, and Mac, starting in the United States, with no timeline announced for other regions.

Powered by Muse Realtime Voice, the update enables spoken conversations with immediate responses, interruptions, and follow-up questions. Muse can also handle requests while users continue talking or doing other activities, such as walking or cooking. Voice conversations can be started by tapping the phone icon in the app's top-right corner.

The update also introduces Muse Realtime Avatar, which adds facial expressions and gestures that respond to the conversation as users speak and receive replies. Users can choose between voice-only interactions, an avatar alongside the conversation, or a full-screen avatar, with hundreds of customizable voices featuring different accents and personalities. The company plans to bring Muse voice conversations to AI Glasses and Muse Charm, although release dates have not been announced.

A warm reminder that Microsoft killed its [checking my notes...] "Mico" mascot few months ago, less than one year after announced it, because nobody liked it. Now Meta, you're on your own with your playful avatar, and your swaggy CEO with his tamagotchi and his battery-powered glasses. So good luck sailing through the actual AI existential crisis, but I know you're used to failures.
