Apple announces its first-ever touchscreen MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR, starting at $2,899
After years of rumors, Apple has finally introduced its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, featuring a touchscreen for the first time in the MacBook lineup, alongside new PROLED XDR displays with tandem OLED technology. The panels offer up to 2,000 nits of brightness for HDR and SDR content, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, adaptive ProMotion refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz, and an optional nano-texture finish. Touch controls are integrated directly into the display, supporting gestures like scrolling, pinch-to-zoom, and drag and drop, while macOS translates touch input into standard clicks for compatibility with existing apps.
The laptops retain the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips but introduce a redesigned thermal system to direct heat away from the OLED display. They support up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage, with three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, SDXC, MagSafe, and a headphone jack.
Pricing starts at a whopping $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch model, with fully upgraded configurations reportedly reaching around $14,549. Pre-orders are open now, and availability begins November 6.
