VLC latest RC1 update brings Arm64 builds for Windows 11 and fixes Windows XP SP3 support

VLC Media Player has released its first release candidate update in a year with version 3.0.22 RC1, adding official compatibility for Windows 11 on Arm64 PCs. Native Arm64 builds improve performance on modern devices, while support for Windows XP Service Pack 3 has been restored for those still using legacy systems.

The update also introduces workflow improvements, letting Windows users rename, move, or delete the currently playing file. Playback sees multiple fixes, including Opus channel mapping, VideoToolbox decoding for XVID MPEG-4, ProRes 4:4:4:4 handling, and FLAC playback and seeking. Stability issues such as demuxer crashes, short ASF file playback, and occasional VOB and AOB detection errors have also been resolved.

Interface and compatibility updates include a dark palette option for the Qt version, extended support for Qt6 and newer Qt5 releases, and enhanced Matroska container handling. Video output is further improved with AMD GPU Frame Rate Doubler integration via Direct3D11. As this build remains a release candidate, users must compile it from source or wait for the stable release.

VLC is still the King, and always has been, even with a single update a year. MPV is also neat, but not as features packed as VLC. The Windows XP fix is epic, especially when most software refuse to support anything older than Windows 10.
