Spotify finally launches lossless audio streaming for all Premium users at no extra cost

Spotify has finally launched lossless streaming after years of delays, closing an eight-year wait since the feature was first teased in 2017. The new feature will be available to all Premium subscribers at no extra cost, despite earlier rumors that it might be locked behind a more expensive tier, at least for now. The rollout brings 24-bit / 44.1 kHz FLAC encoding, delivering sound quality that improves on Spotify's standard audio but does not quite match the highest resolutions offered by Apple Music, TIDAL, or Qobuz, which support up to 24-bit / 192 kHz.

Spotify users must manually enable lossless playback in the app’s Settings & Privacy menu under Media Quality, and this has to be done on each device. Once activated, a lossless indicator appears in the Now Playing bar and Connect Picker. The feature works for both streaming and downloads over Wi-Fi and cellular data.

At launch, lossless is supported on devices from Sony, Bose, Samsung, and Sennheiser, with Sonos and Amazon Echo integration coming next month. The rollout will cover 50 markets over the next two months, starting with the US, UK, Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden, with in-app notifications alerting users once it’s available.

Too late yes, I don't support a CEO that invests in a war, overall Spotify is too overloaded with features for me. Switching to TIDAL, all the big companies are sadly investing in the genocide.

It's definitely too late; I recently switched to Apple Music. I don't regret it.

Too late, I already left this shitty emotional spying machine that generate songs to get more money from uneligable revenue and financing war drones.

They're increasing the prices for premium, I think that covers the extra cost. 😉

@Schmebi Yeah, probably... But other times they just increase prices without giving anything in return, so this is slightly less painful Anyway, Spotify is relatively cheap in my market, so the cost/benefit is clearly worthwhile for me (for the time being...)
