Apple Music expands transfer tool for moving from other services to the US & more regions

A few days ago Apple Music quietly expanded its music transfer tool, finally bringing it to users in the United States while also extending access to the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Brazil, France, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. Initially launched in May 2025 with availability only in Australia and New Zealand, the tool now offers a broader set of users the ability to migrate their saved songs, albums, and playlists from competing platforms into Apple Music.

The transfer tool works through an integration with SongShift, a service specializing in playlist migration. Users can now initiate transfers either from iPhone and iPad settings or directly on the web via music.apple.com. The tool aims to make it easier for users to migrate their existing libraries and playlists at no cost, offering support for major rival platforms, currently including alternatives such as YouTube Music, Apple Music, Deezer, TIDAL, and of course, Spotify.

During the transfer process, the system endeavors to match each track to entries in the Apple Music catalog. If a song cannot be matched, it is flagged for manual user review. Only playlists created by users themselves are eligible for transfer; algorithm-based or editorial playlists from other music services are excluded.
