Zulip Server 11.0 adds message reminders, channel folders, E2EE push notifications & more

Zulip Server 11.0 has been released with more than 3,300 commits since version 10.0, delivering hundreds of new features and fixes. The update comes after the earlier launch of Zulip’s next-generation mobile app in June for Android and iOS, rebuilt in Flutter to offer faster performance and a smoother interface compared to the previous React Native version. In the eight weeks following that app launch, it received five updates adding features such as search, user statuses, read receipts, external sharing, emoji reaction details, user group mention autocomplete, and expanded TeX math support.

Highlights of this release include message reminders for scheduling personal follow-ups, channel folders to organize conversations in the Inbox and sidebar (with folder-based permission controls planned), and the ability to create channels without topics for simpler setups. Inbox management is enhanced with options to bulk mark muted or unfollowed topics as read and better notification settings. Security improvements add server-side support for end-to-end encryption of push notifications, with the option to require it and fallback behavior for unsupported clients.

Other updates include integrations with OpenProject and OpenSearch, improvements to GitHub, GitLab, JotForm, LDAP, SAML, and SCIM group syncing, recent topics lists, customizable sidebar behavior, cleaner and larger media previews, and customizable welcome messages for onboarding. The release also delivers full translation coverage for 25 languages, now managed via Weblate.
