YouTube tests threaded comment UI and nested replies for Premium users

YouTube is testing a new threaded comment interface inspired by Reddit, now available to all Premium subscribers on Android and iOS until August 14. The feature introduces nested replies, allowing for deeper and more organized conversations within comment sections. It expands on a smaller test run earlier this year.

The updated design visually connects main comments with their replies, helping users follow discussions more easily. Replies to replies are also threaded, following a clearer conversation structure.

Premium users can enable the experiment at youtube.com/new or through the YouTube app by going to Profile → Your premium benefits → Try experimental new features → Comment Threading. While collapsing threads isn’t supported yet, YouTube hints this may come in future updates.

Why even bother, when Screwtoob hides or deletes a good number of the comments people leave? It's gotten to the point where I rarely even waste my time leaving comments because so many of them go unseen.
