I used to have a Reddit account, but I never really did much on the site. Mostly just to make a few comments about stuff, share my insights, and post a few gameplay videos (at least as far as I recall). The communities/subreddits definitely weren't bad at all; very insightful and helpful. I stopped using Reddit upon the announcement of API changes coming July 2023. reddit randomly suspends your account these days and gives 'we had a server error' issue. i tried making several new accounts each time it did to me and figured out it usually happens when you have multiple reddit site tabs open in your browser. seriously terminating accounts for that reason?

also these days many people uses AI to answer to your question to grind karma for reddit program thingy. whats the point of using reddit now if the comments are AI generated?

    still reddit has quality...

Comment summary: Reddit users highlight the platform's vast and diverse range of communities and its effectiveness in offering niche content. However, issues like slow load times, excessive moderation, and controversial management practices such as API changes and censorship have been criticized. Many note Reddit's decline in fostering free speech, comparing it to its early days, and express concerns over privacy and user manipulation through shadowbans.

It used to be a platform for free speech, now like other social medias they have become a safe space so that they can stay advertiser friendly. If one of the founders of Reddit were still alive today, he would be disgraced by what it had become.

Reddit has banned many kinds of communities for "hate" speech, who knows what their definition of "hate" is. Recently they banned a community called /r/frenworld, a subreddit for memes of green frogs. They had broken no rules, they only had some drama with another subreddit called TopMindsOfReddit, where they branded them as nazis for using the green frog meme. It saddens me that today this is considered to be hateful.

Aaron Swartz would be rolling in his grave if he knew what the company he co-founded had become. Reddit was formerly a platform for free speech, now it is a safe space for leftists.

I Think reddit Is Trying To Clean Up Adult Things On Their Website, Cause They Saw Lots Of Adult Things In Their Website, And Their Being Banned By Some Countries, So They Do That?

Um, the Subreddit “/r/frenworld” was literally posting Nazi apologia, gloried the NSDAP's leader Hitler, and most significantly did Holocaust denial/apologia.

I deleted my account (along with my posts and comments) all together in December 2023(?) when I found out that Reddit may use users' posts and comments to train AI models. Despite the several backlashes in 2023, it seems that the staff wouldn't listen and just pushed on with the changes anyway (especially with the API changes). And it's only getting worse from here. Now I "occasionally" browse Reddit via the Redlib frontend.

In other words: Good communities. Bad service.

Fuck spez.

To say it sucks would be an understatement. Pretty much all the sane people have left Reddit long ago. You'd be hard pressed to find an honest or educated opinion there - the site is rife with all sorts of shills. Sanity seems to have also abandoned the UI designers, who deliberately turn this platform into a horrendous laggy mess. Avoid using it, and if you need to read something from there (my condolences...) - use the old.reddit.com address or the Libreddit frontend.

What is Reddit?

Reddit (stylized in its logo as reddit) is an American social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website. Registered members submit content to the site such as links, text posts, and images, which are then voted up or down by other members. Posts are organized by subject into user-created boards called "subreddits", which cover a variety of topics including news, science, movies, video games, music, books, fitness, food, and image-sharing. Submissions with more up-votes appear towards the top of their subreddit and, if they receive enough votes, ultimately on the site's front page. Despite strict rules prohibiting harassment, Reddit's administrators spend considerable resources on moderating the site.
