What is nvira?

nvira is a free, browser-based community platform and a privacy-focused alternative to Discord. It brings interest-based communities, real-time chat, voice and video calls, and end-to-end encrypted messaging together in one place you open in any modern browser — nothing to install.

You can join existing communities or start your own in minutes: add topic-based text channels, share posts and polls, and grow your membership with shareable invite links. Owners and moderators get real control, including members-only viewing or posting, invite-only (hidden) communities, staff-only posting, moderator management, and an audit log of moderation activity — so your community is genuinely yours to run.

On the privacy side, direct messages and their file attachments are end-to-end encrypted on your device, so nvira cannot read them. Sign-up is email-based with no phone number required. nvira is honest about the boundaries: already-public content chosen from the built-in picker (GIFs and stickers), a small amount of coarse metadata such as a file's rough size and type, and voice/video call routing metadata are not end-to-end encrypted, and posts in public communities are meant to be public.
