Google is introducing Video Overviews in NotebookLM

Google has introduced Video Overviews to its AI research tool NotebookLM, allowing users to generate narrated visual presentations from their own documents, images, diagrams, and quotes. Instead of using video generation models like Google Veo the feature creates dynamic slideshows that turn dense content into more accessible summaries, somewhat similar to Google Vids. This feature was announced back in May.

As a visual counterpart to Audio Overviews, this tool helps explain data, processes, and abstract ideas using contextual visuals. Playback options include skipping forward or backward by 10 seconds and adjusting speed to suit different review styles.

The feature is currently available only in English, with more languages on the way. Meanwhile, the Studio tab is getting a visual refresh and now supports multitasking, for example, listening to an Audio Overview while viewing a Mind Map or Study Guide. Google also plans to expand Video Overviews beyond the current slideshow format, so we might eventually see full AI-generated videos powered by models like Veo or other advanced models.
