Facebook merges all videos into 'reels', drops format limits and unifies sharing

Facebook is rebranding its video tab as "reels", placing all videos under a single label regardless of length, format, or audience. The update removes the distinction between short reels and other types of videos, moving toward a more unified concept of reels similar to how video works on Instagram.

Reels on Facebook can now be any length or orientation, from short vertical clips to horizontal videos over 20 minutes. Instagram reels, however, are still limited to three minutes. Meta will prompt users to review their privacy settings, as reels are typically public while many Facebook videos were previously shared with friends only.

Meta will roll out the update gradually in the coming months.
