Apple unveils version 26 across its OS lineup with new design language & several features

Apple announced major operating system updates at WWDC 2025, introducing several new features across its entire ecosystem. All platforms now share the “26” version number, aligning software releases by year. Central to each update is Liquid Glass, a new design system that adds depth, transparency, and layered effects to every device.

iOS 26 introduces on-device Apple Intelligence features like real-time translation in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone, as well as Visual Intelligence for contextual contextual detection of events and product searches and ChatGPT integration for on-screen analysis, similar to Google's Circle to Search. A redesigned Phone app with Call Screening arrives on both iOS and macOS to let users preview caller info before answering, and Messages gains updates like chat filtering, polls, and custom backgrounds. macOS Tahoe 26 also enhances customization with frosted menus and folders personalization, while Spotlight received its major update ever, turning it into an action center with filtering options for specific file types and support for inline tasks like note creation and media playback, resembling alternatives like Raycast. Additionally, Live Activities from iPhone now sync to the Mac menu bar, and apps like Phone and Journal are now available on macOS.

iPadOS 26 finally supports resizable windows beyond full screen mode, allowing multiple apps of any size on screen at once, similar to Samsung DeX, along with macOS-style window controls and a new mouse pointer. The Preview app is also coming to iPad, and the Files app its getting an expanded list view, folder pinning, and Live Activity indicators for ongoing tasks.

A new Apple Games app launches across devices, serving as a central hub with achievements, friend challenges, Apple Arcade, and Game Center integration. watchOS 26 adds Workout Buddy for real-time feedback, new gesture controls, and Notes app support. tvOS 26 introduces karaoke mode with lyric translations and updated FaceTime features, while visionOS 26 brings spatial widgets, an upgraded Persona system, and Safari support for 3D content.
