Nvidia launches native GeForce NOW app in Steam Deck with 4K cloud gaming & longer battery

NVIDIA has launched a native GeForce NOW app designed specifically for the Steam Deck handheld console. This release allows Steam Deck owners to stream a library of over 2,200 games from the GeForce NOW cloud service, including titles from Steam, Epic Games Store, Game Pass for PC, Ubisoft Connect, and Battle.net. Users can now access and play games that are otherwise unsupported or unavailable on the device.

With the new app, games can be streamed at up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. Compatible titles take advantage of features such as high dynamic range (HDR), Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS 4), and NVIDIA Reflex. These enhancements allow for gameplay at maximum graphics settings, regardless of the Steam Deck’s local hardware limitations, and improve the experience for titles that can also run natively on the device.

While GeForce NOW shifts game processing to the cloud, the Steam Deck acts as a display and input device, significantly reducing power demands. According to NVIDIA, this approach can extend battery life by up to 50 percent compared to native game streaming, directly addressing the Steam Deck’s high power consumption concerns. The launch of GeForce NOW on Steam Deck is especially timely, as SteamOS has recently become available on non-Valve handhelds like the ROG Ally, broadening the potential user base for GeForce NOW on handheld PCs.
