Google Meet adds AI-powered real-time speech translation with Gemini voice cloning

Google Meet has introduced real-time speech translation powered by Google Gemini, enabling conversations to be automatically dubbed into another language during video calls. This new feature, announced at Google I/O, translates spoken language into the preferred language of the listener without requiring any external translation tools.

The translation maintains the original speaker's voice, tone, and expressions by using AI-based voice cloning. At launch, Meet supports only English-to-Spanish real-time translation and dubbing, with automatic voiceover during conversations. Google has stated that Italian, German, and Portuguese language support will be added in the coming weeks.

Following this rollout, users can activate or disable the translation mid-call through dedicated Gemini controls. The feature is currently offered in beta to users subscribed to the Google Workspace AI Pro plan and the AI Premium (AI Ultra) plan, priced at $249.99 per month.
