Google to replace Assistant with Gemini on Android & more devices this year
Google has announced that it will replace Google Assistant with Google Gemini on Android phones later this year. The transition will happen gradually over the coming months, with users being upgraded from Assistant to Gemini. Once the switch is complete, Google Assistant will be phased out from most mobile devices and app stores.
Google has been enhancing Gemini's capabilities, focusing on users who rely on Assistant's functionalities. Recent updates to Gemini include features such as music playback, timer setting, and action execution directly from the lock screen. Additionally, Gemini introduces new features like Gemini Live and Deep Research.
The Gemini update will also extend to tablets, cars, and connected devices like headphones and smartwatches. Home devices such as smart speakers, displays, and TVs will receive a new experience powered by Gemini. Until the transition is complete, Google Assistant will continue to function on existing devices.

Last time I checked, Gemini doesn't have all the hands-free functionality that the Google Assistant has (e.g. control your house), and now the latter is going defunct?
Wow, that's… pretty inconsequential. I was already not using Google's Assistant, together with all the other apps bundled on my Pixel device e.g; Contacts, Messages, Calendar, the tracker one—something "wellbeing" (though really all of them), Drive, the launcher, Chrome, YouTube, everything with "Play" in it, and even the "corest" of the core app on a phone, the dialer. They all have a privacy agreement, more like notice… or "misleading heads-up."
It's a chore setting up an Android device getting new apps of everything. I fear to break my phone because its replacement will likely come with new helpful features I can't escape even by rooting it. Apple devices are less user-hostile in some ways, but only due to monopolistic reasons— at least I hear their new AI features are getting delayed.
I hope this nightmare ends soon, it sort of feels like something really bad for everyone is coming that will upend this bs, I don't wanna know, and yet…
Man, that's depressing. Sorry! On the flipside though… See?! You can really put Doom in eh-nie-thing-gh.
