X adds new country of origin, exposing hundreds of pro nationalist accounts as foreign-run
X/Twitter has begun rolling out a new 'About this account' section during the weekend, designed to help users verify authenticity and identify suspicious accounts by showing the user’s current country, the country where the account was created, username change history, and whether the account accesses X through the web or a specific app store, similar to measures on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The feature was previously limited to a small test group but is now available to all users, which has already sparked chaos among many people due to the country of origin data revealing hundreds of accounts that were allegedly posing as citizens of countries they do not belong to.
For example, many users noticed that profiles claiming US ultra-nationalist stances were actually operated from countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, or parts of Eastern Europe, even though they portrayed themselves as American. Some of these misleading accounts have gathered hundreds of thousands of followers. Even the US Department of Homeland Security was flagged as being based in Tel Aviv, Israel, though X employees confirmed this information was fabricated and was never actually shown, despite some users sharing screen recordings as evidence.
Users can view their expanded account metadata through the joined button. After initial testing, the platform added privacy toggles that let users choose between showing their country or only their region/continent, though the information cannot be fully hidden yet. VPN users may also see a warning if their listed location may not reflect their real region. It is also worth noting that some legitimate users have reported inaccurate country listings, mostly on older accounts, which X has committed to fixing soon. Inaccuracies may also result from travel, team locations, VPN use, or outdated IP data, but many country matches appear to be accurate and highlight ongoing concerns about foreign influence and coordinated campaigns.

Letting third worlders in on our internet was such a horrible idea.
Tim Berners-Lee: "Letting Americans in on MY Internet was such a horrible idea" 😁
Agreed. Segregation would do wonders for our world.
What makes you think that YOU would be in charge of the gate? 😂
Didn't say I would be, what meds are you on?
🤣🤣🤣 This is hilarious!! Either you are adopting this “racist troll” persona—which would be really sad—or, even worse, you ACTUALLY ARE like this, which would be absurdly passé. In any case, we are fortunate enough to be able to block and/or ignore your online presence, but I pity the fellow Homo sapiens who have to deal with you in a more concrete way on a daily basis 🤷♀️
this was a very funny addition while it lasted ngl
Wasn't the financial reward for most popular users intended to attract third world users to produce right-wing slop?
Because it's certainly the only thing that has worked correctly on this website for two years.
Well, MElon, you've been caught doing the controversial salute (1, 2, 3,) boosting the far-rights (1, 2,) and repeatedly, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (1, 2, 3.)
Julian Assange of
WikiLeaks, who is now stuck under You-Know-Who's clutches via MElon (1, 2,) has since quit this PSCM (proprietary social control media, 1, 2,) since PSCM controls the voices, the narratives, and the press as well since they buy into the lies that PSCM is a medium for communications, effectively Chat Control en masse. Even Stallman never used it since the end-users are denied access to source code.
Cory Doctorow and Eben Moglen said that PSCM will burn and die as it is a rapid race to the bottom (1, 2, 3, 4.)
Unless, you move to libre Ex-Twitter "alternative" (sic) here.
Who said using bots from third world countries and funneling foreign influence is bad? When his infallible majesty Dork Maga does it, it's only for the benefit of human race (mostly white) 👍
