Orion Browser 1.0 launches for macOS with privacy-first design and WebKit engine

Orion Browser for macOS has reached version 1.0 after six years of development, leaving beta and joining its iOS and iPadOS versions as a production ready browser. The project centers on privacy by rejecting ad funding and telemetry, offering zero data collection, strong content blocking, and no built in tracking technologies.

The browser uses the WebKit engine instead of Chromium to stay aligned with macOS and iOS performance, and reinforcing its role as one of the most interesting alternatives to Safari. It also avoids embedding AI agents in the core, connecting only to external AI tools selected by the user and keeping them separate from the browsing environment. Version 1.0 adds features such as focus mode, link previews, a mini toolbar, expanded page tweaks, and isolated profiles that work as separate mini apps. These additions build on community feedback that shaped improvements in tab stability, memory use, and compatibility with demanding web apps.

Orion is available for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS, with a Linux alpha underway and a Windows release planned for 2026. The browser is free to use, and includes 200 complimentary Kagi searches, and it also offers Orion+ paid versions starting at $5/month with perks like early features, customizable buttons, and floating windows.

Does that mean that we could get a WebKit browser for Windows? 😯 That'd be REALLY interesting...
