Kagi Search introduces Privacy Pass and Tor onion service for enhanced privacy & anonymity
Kagi, the company behind the Kagi search engine and the Orion web browser, has unveiled a new privacy feature called Privacy Pass. This IETF-standardized protocol ensures that user searches remain technically unlinkable to their accounts, enhancing privacy for users of this paid search engine. Privacy Pass enables users to authenticate to servers like Kagi without revealing their identity, ensuring that searches are not associated with individual accounts.
Privacy Pass is available to Professional, Ultimate, Family, and Team plans, but not to Trial and Starter plans due to technical limitations. Users can access Privacy Pass through the Orion browser, the Kagi Android app, or a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. It's important to note that while Privacy Pass provides anonymity, it also means that user account settings will not be accessible.
In conjunction with this announcement, Kagi has also introduced a Tor onion service, allowing users to access Kagi directly from the Tor network, further emphasizing Kagi's commitment to user privacy.
