Ardour 8.7 released with track dragging, ruler changes, MIDI scene markers, and more
Ardour, the popular open-source digital audio workstation (DAW), has released version 8.7 for Linux, Windows, and macOS, bringing new features and improvements to enhance user experience and performance. Among the updates, users can now drag selected tracks and busses with the mouse for better session arrangement, and the display of rulers has been simplified to three types to reduce confusion.
Additionally, Ardour 8.7 refines the ability to record and replay MIDI program and bank changes from the timeline, with external MIDI device support. A significant technical upgrade in this version is the introduction of parallelized disk I/O, enabling the DAW to utilize multiple CPU cores for efficient audio and MIDI data handling. This release, which also includes numerous bug fixes, performance enhancements, and updated plugins, marks the final update in the 8.x series as the team prepares for the upcoming 9.0 version.
