Apple Releases macOS Sequoia and major updates for iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS
Apple has unveiled new versions of its operating systems, including the eagerly awaited iOS 18 with RCS Support and a new Control Center. Alongside this, updates for macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS have also been released, each bringing a host of new features and improvements:
-
macOS Sequoia now supports iPhone mirroring, enabling users to wirelessly display and interact with their iPhone on a Mac using a mouse and keyboard (similar to Phone Link). Notifications from iPhone can be displayed on the Mac, and drag-and-drop support between devices will be added later this year. The update also includes the new Passwords app and enhancements to Messages.
-
iPadOS 18 introduces greater customization options, such as free placement of apps and widgets on the Home Screen, custom-colored icons, and redesigned tab bars. The Control Center is now customizable with additional controls. This version also brings the Apple Calculator and also the Passwords apps to the iPad for the first time, and Apple Pencil users can benefit from Smart Script, which enhances handwriting in Apple Notes.
-
watchOS 11 adds sleep apnea detection to Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2, using the accelerometer to monitor wrist movements and alert users of potential sleep interruptions. Health metrics like heart rate, blood oxygen, and wrist temperature can now be tracked overnight. The new Vitals app summarizes health data, and features like Training Load and customizable Fitness App summaries are also included.
-
tvOS 18 improves subtitle functionality by automatically enabling them when users mute or replay scenes. Subtitles can also activate when the audio language doesn’t match the device language and can be customized in settings. The new Enhance Dialogue feature improves vocal clarity in TV shows and movies, with future improvements using machine learning for better clarity when paired with HomePod speakers.
-
visionOS 2 for Apple Vision Pro introduces new gesture controls, allowing users to tap their palm to navigate to the Home View or access Control Center. The update also includes support for rearranging app icons and moving iPhone/iPad apps to the main Apps View. Keyboard passthrough is now supported, enabling interaction with Magic Keyboard or MacBook keyboards within immersive environments. Guest User data is saved for 30 days, enhancing the multi-user experience.
