Microsoft unifies Teams app for desktops, merging personal, work, and school accounts

Microsoft has launched a unified Microsoft Teams app for Windows and Mac, combining personal, work, and education accounts into a single platform. This update allows users to switch between different accounts and Teams tenants without multiple installations, simplifying user management. The new app also enables users to join meetings as guests without signing in, making it easier to connect for work calls or school events.

Previously, Windows 11 integrated Teams into the taskbar but only supported personal accounts, leading to confusion and requiring separate installations for personal and work Teams apps. The new unified app resolves this issue by combining Microsoft Teams (free) and Microsoft Teams (work or school) into one application, eliminating the need for separate installations.

The updated app also features improved notifications, helping users identify which account or team a notification is coming from. Existing Microsoft Teams users on Windows or Mac will receive the update automatically, while new users can download the app from Microsoft's website.
