Amazon partners with TikTok and Pinterest to enable direct in-app shopping
Amazon has entered into new partnerships with TikTok and Pinterest, enabling users to shop directly within these platforms without visiting Amazon's website. This initiative lets users buy directly from ads on TikTok and Pinterest using Amazon payment methods and shipping addresses, with ads now including product prices, shipping times, and Prime eligibility.
The in-app shopping feature is limited to select products advertised on TikTok and Pinterest, which can be sold either directly by Amazon or by independent sellers through Amazon's store. This initiative is part of Amazon's broader "Project Handshake," which seeks to integrate shopping into social media platforms. This collaboration follows Amazon's previous agreements with Instagram and Snapchat, which also facilitate in-app shopping.
TikTok, which has been developing its own shopping platform, launched In-App Shopping feature in North America a while ago, and added features like a dedicated shop tab and live stream shop buttons. TikTok's partnership with Amazon comes amid regulatory challenges, as the platform faces potential bans in the US unless ByteDance, its China-based parent company, agrees to divest ownership.
