Valnet acquires OpenCritic, plans to transform it into a social platform for gamers

Valnet has acquired OpenCritic, a prominent video game review aggregator for an undisclosed amount. Known for owning tech and culture sites such as TheGamer, GameRant, ScreenRant, and How-To Geek, Valnet's acquisition was announced by Brad Fleischman, the company’s general manager of gaming, on GameRant.

OpenCritic, which aggregates clear and unbiased game reviews from major outlets, operates similarly to Metacritic. Valnet plans to transform OpenCritic into a social media platform tailored for gamers, enhancing social interaction, community engagement, and library building.

This acquisition is expected to improve SEO for Valnet’s gaming publications and introduce new features on OpenCritic. Additionally, the platform is poised to expand its presence on more PC platforms, including the Epic Games Store, GOG.com, Humble Bundle and Gamesplanet
