Google to integrate more Android into ChromeOS to accelerate AI innovations and features

Google has announced a significant shift in the development of ChromeOS, integrating large portions of the Android stack to expedite the delivery of AI innovations and features to users. This strategic move involves adopting the Android Linux kernel and Android frameworks as foundational elements of ChromeOS. According to Google, this will streamline engineering efforts and enhance interoperability between Chromebooks and other devices like phones and accessories.

The integration aims to accelerate the rollout of AI capabilities within ChromeOS, promising a faster pace of innovation. Although these changes are being implemented now, they won't be available to consumers immediately. Google assures a seamless transition when the updated experience is ready.

In the meantime, Chromebook Plus laptop owners can already access the Gemini feature directly from their home screen, offering a glimpse of the enhanced capabilities to come.
