Home Assistant unveils Music Assistant 2.0 with Spotify, Tidal, and Deezer integration
Home Assistant, the open-source home automation software known for its privacy focus, has launched Music Assistant 2.0, five years after its initial launch. Music Assistant serves as a music library manager, offering users full control over playing music on their devices. It centralizes music sources and smart audio-playing devices, much like Home Assistant does with devices and services.
The new version, Music Assistant 2.0, offers quick connectivity to popular streaming providers such as Spotify, Tidal, and Deezer, along with local media files. Users can import their liked tracks, artists, albums, and playlists, which are all displayed with the correct artwork. The software also supports streaming protocols and devices including Airplay, Cast, and DLNA, enabling media play on a wide array of devices.
Music Assistant 2.0 presents a unified music library with advanced features. It seamlessly merges local and cloud libraries, ensuring that if a track exists in multiple places, it appears only once while highlighting the highest-quality version. The updated software also allows for multiple accounts from the same provider, meaning everyone in a household can centralize their playlists. Other features include the ability to group supported players for synchronized playback and advanced playback options such as cross-fade and volume normalization, irrespective of device support.
Additionally, Music Assistant 2.0 can integrate with Home Assistant to provide automation and voice control capabilities, enhancing the overall user experience.
