Google prepares Android users for imminent launch of 'Find My Device' network
Google has started notifying Android users about the imminent launch of its long-awaited Android-based Find My Device network. The tech giant first announced the feature last year, but its rollout was delayed due to ongoing collaboration with Apple to create a cross-platform solution for unwanted tracking alerts.
The Find My Device network is designed to leverage the vast number of Android devices worldwide to assist in locating lost phones, headphones, and trackers. In an email to select users, Google stated, “With the new Find My Device network, you’ll be able to locate your devices even if they’re offline. You can also find any compatible Fast Pair accessories when they’re disconnected from your device. This includes compatible earbuds and headphones, and trackers that you can attach to your wallet, keys, or bike.”
Google also mentioned in the email that the network is set to launch “in three days”. This suggests that the Find My Device network could have launched yesterday or today, April 8th. However, Google has yet to officially confirm the exact launch date.
Copied Apple again. At least Apple "tries" to make it sound privacy-respecting. I don't really know what to make of it. I'm sure non-privacy minded folks are excited.
