Proton Mail boosts privacy with email aliases and Proton Sentinel integration

Proton Mail has introduced a feature that allows users to create unique email aliases for different apps and websites, enhancing privacy and security. Users can manage and deactivate these aliases through the Security Center in Proton Mail settings.

The company has also incorporated Proton Sentinel into the Security Center, which monitors user activity to prevent account takeovers. The hide-my-email function, previously only available in Proton Pass, Proton Mail's password manager, is now accessible directly within Proton Mail, giving users more control over their online identity.

Anant Vijay Singh, Product Lead at Proton Mail, emphasized the importance of protecting one's email address, comparing it to a digital passport online. The new hide-my-email feature in Proton Mail is designed to reduce the risk of spam, marketing exploitation, and targeted phishing attacks that can occur due to email address exposure.

I have been using DuckDuckGo's email alias service a lot. I really hope they don't shut it down or put it behind a paywall because what a headache to then have to go through and change every single account e-mail I've associated with those. With G-mail let you did this (not just the + thing).

Proton bought SimpleLogin back in April 2022, which was a move I really respect. After getting used to using email aliases, I feel a lot safer online... especially registering with websites that are sketchy! I haven't enabled Proton Sentinel because I am a bit paranoid that it's "too over the top" for me. Would love if someone wanted to change my mind on that.
