Microsoft adds spellcheck and autocorrect features to Notepad app in Windows 11

Microsoft is adding a spellcheck feature to its Windows Notepad app in Windows 11, currently available to testers and set for a wider release later this year. The spellcheck function, similar to Microsoft Word, underlines misspelled words in red and offers spelling suggestions. An autocorrect feature is also being introduced, which will automatically correct mistakes as they're typed. The spellcheck will support multiple languages and allows users to either ignore certain words or add them to a custom dictionary.

By default, spellcheck will be enabled for some file types and disabled for others, such as log files and coding files. Users can modify spellcheck settings either globally or for specific file types within the Notepad app settings. The settings can be temporarily changed for individual files through the context menu.

The spellcheck feature is part of a series of enhancements to Notepad in Windows 11, which includes a character count, autosave option, and dark mode. Microsoft has also added tabs, Copilot AI, and a virtual fidget spinner to improve Notepad.

An even worse product now that they will upload everything you type into it to their servers. It was a neutral app before. Now it's spyware.
