Joplin 2.14 update introduces OCR, enhanced backup plugin, and improved rich text editor

Joplin, the well-known open source note-taking application, has launched its 2.14 version, introducing several new features, enhancements, and bug fixes. A key feature in this update is the integration of Optical Character Recognition (OCR), which facilitates the conversion of images containing text into machine-readable formats. Although OCR search is accessible on both desktop and mobile platforms, the document scanning feature is exclusively available on desktop due to its high resource requirements.

In addition to OCR, Joplin 2.14 will also incorporate high-quality plugins, including the Backup plugin by JackGruber. This plugin will add an extra layer of protection for Joplin users by automatically storing copies of their notes in a JoplinBackup folder located in the home directory.

Further enhancements in this version include refinements to the Joplin ENEX importer, the Markdown editor based on CodeMirror 6, and the Rich Text Editor (RTE). The RTE updates aim to improve interoperability with other applications such as LibreOffice, Microsoft Office, and web browsers, and also provide better handling of copy and paste functions.
