Google Drive is developing a new multi-categorization feature to enhance file discovery
Google Drive is said to be working on a new feature, "Categories", aimed at enhancing file discovery. The feature is anticipated to have 12 predefined categories including Auto, Banking, Expenses, Home, IDs, Insurance, Medical, Pets, School, Taxes, Travel, and Work.
Unlike folders that allow only one categorization per file, "Categories" will let users assign multiple categories to a single file. For example, an auto insurance bill could be tagged under Auto, Expenses, and Insurance categories at the same time.
The new feature will be accessible under "Manage Categories" in the three-dot menu next to the file. While the release date is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to be available on Android, iOS, and desktop versions of Google Drive.
