The YouTube Music web platform appears to be testing offline downloads on desktop version
YouTube Music's web platform is apparently set to introduce offline downloads, a feature already available on the standalone YouTube service and mobile apps. A Reddit user noticed a new 'Downloads' tab on the offline version of YouTube Music, which suggests that the feature is currently under development and testing.
The existence of this feature can be confirmed by users when they disconnect from the internet and reload the music.youtube.com page. The Downloads tab allows users to access downloaded content such as playlists, podcasts, songs, and albums, offering an offline experience similar to other music streaming platforms.
The design of the downloads page on YouTube Music is different from the regular YouTube web downloads hub, indicating that refinements may be made before a full launch. It is expected that offline music downloads on the web will be restricted to Premium subscribers though, similar to the existing offline video download feature on YouTube Premium.
Very interesting... it could totally replace the need for the dedicated app (and its included trackers and spyware).
