Kali Linux 2024.1 launched with enhanced distribution network and several new tools

Kali Linux, the Debian-based Linux distribution focused on information security tasks, has announced the release of version 2024.1. The latest version includes the Micro Mirror Free Software CDN, a major enhancement to Kali Linux's distribution network. These mirrors aim to offer additional bandwidth where required, thus improving the speed and accessibility of Kali downloads across the globe.

The new release is powered by Linux Kernel 6.6. It introduces a yearly theme refresh, including new wallpapers, GRUB themes, and app icons. The Xfce desktop environment has been refined, allowing users to easily copy their VPN IP address to the clipboard with a single click.

For users of the Gnome DE, a key change is the replacement of the Eye of GNOME image viewer with Loupe, as part of the ongoing transition to GTK4-based applications. The latest Nautilus file manager update is now available in Kali’s repositories, offering increased file search speed and a revamped sidebar design.

The NetHunter platform, Kali Linux's mobile penetration testing suite, has also received considerable upgrades. It now supports NetHunter rootless on Android 14, offers enhanced Bluetooth HID attacks, and has been updated for compatibility with the latest Android versions.

Kali Linux 2024.1 also introduces new tools and community packages, alongside improved documentation and bug fixes.
