X’s new block function update has started rolling out, sparking privacy concerns

X has starting rolling out its lastest controversial update to its block function, allowing blocked users to view the profiles and posts of those who blocked them while restricting their ability to like, comment, or engage with the content.

This change has ignited backlash, with some users expressing concerns about privacy and safety. Critics worry that the update could allow stalkers and abusive individuals to continue monitoring their targets, potentially leading to further harassment through screenshots and other means.

X claims the update aims to prevent the misuse of the block function for spreading harmful information undetected, promoting “greater transparency.” The update may also conflict with app store guidelines that require social media platforms to provide a way to block abusive users. Either way, this new dynamic is now available for most users, and it remains to be seen whether it will ultimately be accepted or if it’s only a matter of time before the company backtracks.

Most people use blocks on people for having a different opinion anyways.

Aren't stalkers able to just create other accounts to view the posts anyways? I don't get it.

The (old) block mode disallowed users to re-tweet a message if the author has blocked them. Without it, anyone can re-tweet any message to all its followers, and so it's pretty easy for a whole community (i.e. all the users behaving the same way that the users you've blocked) to harass a single person. Twitter has already tried to remove it few years back, and due to the backslash, they re-instated it with big apologies in less than 24 hours. Now, since the moderation is close to nil and a far share of users are scammers/spammers, this can only make things less peaceful for users.

UserPower, how can you make rolling downhill less peaceful? X/Twitter is a dump anyway, and I don't see how enabling blocked accounts to see your tweets makes it even worse. From what I gathered here it's just about viewing tweets, retweeting isn't gonna be allowed. And if I was still using Twitter, I personally would want the people I blocked to keep seeing my content, I just don't want none of those reply notifications coming from morons
