Microsoft introduces a major change in Windows keyboards with a new dedicated Copilot key
Microsoft has introduced a major update to physical keyboards for Windows devices: the new Copilot key. This significant change, the first in almost 30 years, will be incorporated into new Windows 11 laptops and keyboards, providing users with easier access to the Microsoft Copilot (Windows & 365) AI assistant. When the Copilot key is activated, it will automatically launch the AI assistant, or Windows Search if Copilot is not available or enabled.
Microsoft's Executive Vice President, Yusuf Mehdi, explains that the Copilot key aims to simplify user interaction with AI, which was integrated into Windows 11 in a major update in September 2023, with a Windows 10 update offering Copilot support following later that year.
Microsoft's partners are expected to showcase new PCs equipped with the Copilot key at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. From late January, customers will be able to purchase Windows 11 PCs featuring the Copilot key, with availability continuing throughout the winter and spring, and of course, future Microsoft Surface devices will also include the new key.

Get out of my keyboard, Microsoft! I want my own, privacy-friendly AI software. I guess we're about to see a bunch of new github projects that remap this key, and stickers sold online to cover this nonsense.
