Google plans to add an AI voice feature to Gmail's email drafting tool
Google is said to be adding a voice-activated feature to its AI-assisted email drafting tool, "Help Me Write," in Gmail (users were required to type a prompt to use the tool).
The Gmail mobile app's beta feature now includes a "Draft email with voice" option. Users can activate this by tapping above the keyboard, allowing them to record a voice prompt. The generative AI then converts this recording into an email draft, which users can edit afterwards.
This development is part of Google's ongoing efforts to incorporate AI-related features into its tools and services, such as Google Duet AI, an AI writing assistant for Google Docs and Google Sheets, or even the recently announced Circle to Search feature on Android. Google has not yet officially announced the voice prompt feature for Help Me Write, but an announcement is expected soon.
