YouTube introduces 'YouTube Create' app for Shorts video editing, and unveils new AI tools
YouTube has introduced a new app called YouTube Create, tailored for content creators. Developed based on input from 3,000 creators, the app provides a variety of free, easy-to-use tools for creating both short and long videos.
Like TikTok with CapCut, YouTube has chosen to launch a standalone app for video editing, even though the Shorts tool already has some basic editing features. The app enables creators to edit their clips using a variety of tools, including split previews, clip trimming, and the addition of stickers, GIFs, and effects. It also provides access to YouTube's library of royalty-free music, thereby eliminating copyright concerns. Users can syncs video clips with the beat of the selected song, performs audio cleanup to remove background noise, automatically generates captions, add vfx effects, and more. The completed video can be directly uploaded to the creator's YouTube channel from the app (again, same as the TikTok-CapCut combo).
Initially, YouTube Create is available for Android and is being launched in beta in eight markets: the U.S., Germany, France, the UK, Indonesia, India, Korea, and Singapore, with plans to expand the app with more features and make it accessible to more creators in the future.
The platform has also unveiled a range of AI-based tools for content creators, including a new 'Dream Screen' feature that will enable users to use AI-produced videos and photos as backgrounds for YouTube Shorts. Initially, creators will be able to input prompts to generate backgrounds, with future plans including remixing and editing existing content using AI. YouTube Studio will also include an AI tool that recommends personalized topic ideas and video outlines based on trending content, as well as a music recommendation system, which will suggest suitable audio tracks based on a video's description. In addition to that, they are also developing an AI dubbing feature, which will allow creators to dub their videos into different languages.
