Fedora Project releases Linux 39 Beta, with GNOME 45 support and some key changes delayed

The Fedora Project has released Fedora Linux 39 Beta, a significant step towards the final version set to launch in late October. Some key changes, like the DNF package manager update and the Anaconda installation program's user interface refresh, have been delayed due to readiness issues. This delay is a strategic decision, allowing essential changes more time to develop and ensuring a higher quality Fedora Linux operating system.

Despite the delay, features such as the DNF package manager update and Anaconda UI refresh remain on the development agenda and will be introduced in future releases. Fedora emphasizes the importance of taking calculated risks to drive innovation, recognizing that the quest for perfection can sometimes hinder progress.

The Fedora Workstation 39 Beta introduces GNOME 45 and includes LibreOffice 7.6 for open-source desktop requirements. Notably, Fedora Cloud images for AWS now default to less costly gp3 storage volumes, potentially reducing costs for cloud users. The GNU Toolchain has also been updated with gcc 13.2, binutils 2.40, glibc 2.38, and gdb 13.2, offering the latest developer tools along with security and performance enhancements.

The beta version is nearly identical to the final release, allowing users to verify essential functionalities and contribute to Fedora's improvement. More technical details about the changes in Fedora Linux 39 Beta can be found in the Fedora Linux 39 Change set.
