Mozilla to reintroduce full Browser Extension support for Firefox Android app

Mozilla plans to reestablish full browser extension support for its Mozilla Firefox Android app, a feature that has been missing since the Fenix redesign in 2020. This will align the Android app with the desktop version of Firefox, offering a more customized and full browsing experience for Android users. Neither Google Chrome nor Microsoft Edge, two leading Android browsers, have previously provided full extension support. Firefox's extensions, or add-ons, were once available on Android, but the 2020 Fenix redesign refocused on core functionality, limiting the number of supported add-ons.

The reintroduction of extensive extension support will be accompanied by guidance for developers to adapt their desktop add-ons for Android. Mozilla will announce the launch date for Android add-on support in September, with the release projected for later this year. To aid this transition, Mozilla will offer resources, guides, and forums for developers. The return of a diverse add-on ecosystem will enable features like ad blockers, price trackers, spell checkers, and discount finders across all devices, improving the browsing experience for Firefox Android users.

For users desiring full extension support, Chromium-based alternatives such as Kiwi Browser, Samsung Internet, Yandex Browser or Brave (this last one automatically blocks website trackers and online adverts by default) are also availables.

Interesting article, good for Firefox users, and also nice by the writer to mention another alternatives (which, in this place, shouldn't be a surprise, I guess ;)

Yes, though the Brave parenthetical was a bit random, considering there are many browsers that block trackers by default, and quite a few are more secure and private by design for Android.
