VMware Fusion 2023 tech preview: Introducing 3D acceleration support for Windows 11 on Apple Silicon Macs

VMware Fusion is launching 3D acceleration support for Windows 11 virtual machines on Apple Silicon Macs as part of its 2023 Tech Preview update. This enhancement will allow Mac users to fully utilize their computer's capabilities for both work-related tasks and entertainment purposes, including gaming and multimedia experiences on Windows 11. The 3D acceleration feature will work with ARM-based applications and games, empowering users to run full DirectX 11 3D games and apps with stunning fidelity and speed, and also support emulated 32-bit and 64-bit software. The UI is much more responsive, and when combined with autofit, resolution changes are nearly instant.

The 2023 update includes VMware Tools for Windows 11 virtual machines on Apple Silicon Macs. These tools provide functionalities like drag-and-drop and clipboard sharing between macOS and Windows.

Alongside these features, the update also brings improved security measures and initial compatibility with macOS Sonoma. The VMware Fusion 2023 update is currently in beta and available for download from the VMware website. The official release date for the update has not yet been announced.
